Over 1,000 Women Empowered as City Boy Movement Women Affairs Directorate Delivers Landmark Mega Empowerment Program in Kano

Kano, Nigeria | June 27, 2026

Kano came alive with energy, purpose, and celebration as the Office of the National Director, Women Affairs, City Boy Movement, staged the Kano Mega Women Empowerment Program, a landmark intervention that reached more than 1,000 women with practical support, encouragement, and renewed hope.

Led by Hon. Ummusalma Isiyaka Rabiu, the programme brought together women from across Kano State for a day that was not only about empowerment materials, but about dignity, opportunity, and the belief that women remains central to the growth of families, communities, and the nation at large.

A Vision Beyond Distribution

At its heart, the Mega Women Empowerment Program was never meant to be just another distribution exercise. It was designed as a deliberate response to the everyday realities many women face which is limited access to capital, shrinking opportunities, and the constant struggle to build stable livelihoods.

The goal was simple but powerful: to place practical tools in the hands of women who are ready to work, grow, and contribute meaningfully to their households and communities.

While the empowerment items distributed during the event drew deserved attention, the deeper significance of the programme lay in its message. It affirmed women not as passive recipients of aid, but as active drivers of economic resilience, social stability, and community progress.

Weeks of Planning, One Day of Impact

The success of the Kano edition did not happen by chance. It was the result of weeks of careful planning, coordination, and relentless attention to detail by the leadership.

In the days leading up to the event, National Executive Committee members, Zonal Coordinators, State Coordinators, and other key stakeholders arrived in Kano to fine-tune logistics and ensure that every part of the programme was ready for execution.

Hon. Ummusalma personally oversaw critical aspects of the preparation, including a late-night inspection of the empowerment materials shortly after arriving in Kano (watch highlights here). That moment captured the spirit of the programme perfectly; hands-on leadership, accountability, and a refusal to leave anything to chance.

Leadership Through Service

The programme also stood as a strong example of leadership that shows up, supports, and delivers.

A major pillar of that support came from the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, whose guidance and presence added weight and momentum to the initiative. His decision to send an advance delegation to Kano ahead of the programme, followed by his personal arrival during the final stages of preparation, underscored the seriousness with which the movement approaches grassroots empowerment.

That same spirit of commitment was reflected in the contributions of the Deputy National Director of Women Affairs, Hon. Sophie Uzodimma, whose support remained instrumental throughout the planning and execution process. Alongside national leaders, state coordinators, volunteers, and dedicated team members, she helped ensure that the programme ran smoothly and that beneficiaries experienced an event marked by order, warmth, and purpose.

More Than an Event

What unfolded in Kano was not another formal gathering to count numbers. It was a living expression of hope.

Thousands, men and women alike arrived from different parts of the state with anticipation in their hearts and expectations for a better tomorrow. The atmosphere at the venue was vibrant and deeply human, filled with music, cultural expression, celebration, and the unmistakable joy that comes when people feel seen, valued, and supported.

For many beneficiaries, the empowerment materials represented more than assistance. They represented possibility. They represented the chance to expand a small business, support a household, or take the next step toward financial independence.

Building Stronger Communities Through Women

The City Boy Movement has consistently maintained that national development begins at the grassroots—and that grassroots development is strongest when women are empowered to lead, build, and thrive.

The Kano Mega Women Empowerment Program is part of the Women Affairs Directorate’s wider mission to create sustainable opportunities for women across Nigeria through strategic interventions and community-driven action.

Its impact goes beyond the day itself. By investing in women, the programme strengthens families. By strengthening families, it strengthens communities. And by strengthening communities, it contributes to a more stable and prosperous nation.

As the Kano edition came to a close, one truth stood out clearly: when women are given the tools to succeed, the effects ripple far beyond the individual beneficiary. They touch homes, markets, neighborhoods, and future generations.

The programme marks another important milestone in the City Boy Movement’s ongoing effort to promote inclusion, opportunity, and meaningful grassroots development across the country.

With the success recorded in Kano, the City Boy Movement remains committed to expanding similar interventions, reaching more communities, and ensuring that empowerment continues to translate into lasting change.

Because true empowerment is not measured by the number of items distributed, it is measured by the number of lives transformed.
